
Al-Azhar graduates not allowed to attend International Quran Competitions of Egypt
Cairo, 2008 Aug 20, IQNA Al-Azhar graduates can not participate in the annual international Quran competition of Egypt.
According to Egyptian Alsha'ab Daily, in a decree issued by the Owqaf Ministry of Egypt, it was announced that Al-Azhar graduates can not participate in the international Quranic competition which is annually held in Egypt during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Prior to issuing the new decree, Owqaf Ministry officials had announced that Al-Azhar alumni who had graduated before 2005 can not participate in the special examination for selecting Imams and preachers.
It is worth mentioning that Egypt's International Quran competition is annually held in mid Ramadhan, with participation of top Quranic reciters from different countries.
This year, the holy month of Ramadan begins on September 1 in many Arabic and Islamic countries.
