The African presidency has extended its best wishes to all South African Muslims who have begun fasting for the holy month of Ramadhan.
Ramadhan, which began on Thursday, is a month of sacrifice for the Islamic faith.
"This is a month in which all South African Muslims, and those around the world seek to draw closer to Allah by fasting, reciting the holy Quran, reflecting on its meaning and increasing acts of kindness and sharing," said the Minister in the Presidency Essop Pahad.
"Increasing kindness, sharing and reflecting the significance of unity in our ethno-linguistic, racial and religious diversity, are all vitally important endeavors that can help fight against poverty and assist building of social cohesion in our country," he said.
