The Islamic Republic of Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on September 22 in a ceremony commemorating the beginning of Sacred Defense Week elaborated on the arrogant powers' goals in imposing the 8-year war on Iran this day in 1980 through their agent Saddam, reiterating that Iran has never looked at others with greed, but it has shown that those that invade it will only meet failure and regret.
He said the Sacred Defense was a reminder of the most honourable days in Iran's history, adding the Iranian nation turned these difficult days into an opportunity for its progress.
The president's remarks are a renewed emphasis that the Iranian nation today is more stronger than the sacred defense era and has a powerful presence on the scene of defending the Islamic Republic system and the Islamic Revolution. Among Iran's achievements during the sacred defense were gaining defense capabilities and scientific and technological advances through the efforts of its youth.
Twenty-seven years ago the enemies of the Iranian nation thought they could gain a quick victory by invading Iran's land, air and sea space but ultimately all their plots such as economic embargo, psychological war, political pressure and even military action such as equipping Saddam's regime with chemical weapons did not help them reach their goal. Now too the enemies are trying to weaken the Islamic Republic system through similar plots. But the imposed war was a lesson for the enemies who wrongly thought they could prevent the Iranian nation's resistance and will. As the president said Iran's enemies have failed in their policies and their only choice is to accept the realities. Regional nations also consider foreigners' presence in the region to be the root of all threats, insecurities and differences, and that their efforts to create crisis and blame others for insecurity will not solve any problem.
