The UN investigator for torture, Manfred Nowak announced that the US has turned down his request for a full and independent investigation of all detention centers in Iraq.

Manfred Nowak said in Geneva, Switzerland: it is of so much surprise to me that the US government has refused to allow a full, independent investigation about prisoners languishing in American prisons while he has received positive response to meet prisoners from the British and Iraqi government. Ill treatment of prisoners at US-controlled detention centers in Iraq has turned into a calamitous scandal for White House officials.

The world public opinion has not yet forgot images of torturing prisoners in Abu Gharib and Bucca prisons and Croper base in Iraq.
Besides this, mass killings and massacre of innocent Iraqis committed under the pretext of fighting terrorism have all been reasons drawing wide-scale condemnations and oppositions against the US' policy of violating human rights in Iraq.

All documents and evidences show that the US can be considered as one of the biggest violators of human rights and rights of prisoners and detainees throughout the world.

The Guantanamo Bay detention center which has been built by the US in Cuba to arrest and detain world terror suspects holds more than 500 terror suspects without any charges under the most inhumane conditions. Prison guards are allowed to make use of every possible interrogation method to torture prisoners. Forced nudity, sleep deprivation and disrespecting sanctities are among interrogation methods used to torture prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. The majority of prisoners at US-controlled detention centers also tolerate the worst conditions without any charges being filed against them and are only terror suspects.

The Iraq war and mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners clearly showed the meaning of the US version of human rights.

Hence, one can come to the conclusion that the US government's refusal to let UN investigators visit its detention centers in Iraq shows the existence of worst conditions in these prisons. The revelation of this reality particularly by representative of an international reputable organization could definitely count as another scandal for US officials and this is not to the liking of America.
