Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in an interview with Kuwaiti daily Al-Auwsat, which was published on Thursday September 6 described the US attempts to create discord in the region as the policy of returning to the colonial times.
President Ahmadinejad said: Iran has always moved in line with the unity and solidarity of Islamic countries and has never been after insecurity in the region.
Elsewhere in his interview the Iranian President rejected the US claim of Iran's intervention in the internal affairs of Iraq and reiterated: Any sort of intervention in Iraq can lead to the disintegration of Iraq and such an incident only serves the interests of the US while having no benefit for Iran and other neighbouring states of Iraq. The Islamic Republic of Iran in the past three decades has never initiated any war against another country and has never threatened regional nations. This fact is quite obvious in Iran's foreign policies and its growing ties with the countries of the region and the world; but Iran has strongly stood against its enemies.
In another part of his interview with the Kuwaiti daily Al-Auwsat President Ahmadinejad has stated: The Iranian nation firmly and powerfully counters all threats with reliance on the power of faith in God and its political and defense readiness. Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution Washington has sought to undermine the Islamic system of Iran through hatching different plots. Presently the US is following the same policy. Sparking war between Shiites and Sunnis, supporting extremist and terrorist groups and tarnishing ties among regional countries are among the strategic goals of the US in the Middle East. Through its policy of creating discord the United States pursues several objectives; the first goal is to prepare the ground for its long-term presence in the region with the aim of maintaining the superiority of the Zionist regime. The second goal is to prevent the development of Islamic countries and undermine regional economy through dominating energy resources. The third US goal is to drive the region into a bigger crisis and prepare the ground for changing political structures of the region. Such objectives are regarded as a big and serious threat to the region and the Islamic world, which can be countered only through unity and solidarity among Muslim nations.
