NAM statement in defense of Iran's nuclear rights shows the isolation of US
Vienna, 2007/06/14, IRIB
During the seasonal meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors, 15 statements were read by different groups and countries in regard to Iran's peaceful nuclear activities. The majority of the said statements called for a negotiated solution to Iran's nuclear case, avoidance of political pressures and setting no preconditions for resumption of Iran's talks with 5+1 Group.
Meanwhile, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states, which constitutes the largest group among the IAEA member states, have issued a statement, emphasizing the said issues and the necessity to respect Iran's rights in regard to gaining access to peaceful nuclear technology, while calling for the return of Iran's nuclear case from the United Nations Security Council to the IAEA. The NAM member states also supported IAEA Chief Mohammad ElBaradei position, which considered western policy of stopping Iran from enriching uranium as a futile effort. They also called for continuation of uranium enrichment in Iran.
Political analysts believe the NAM statement and the emphasis laid by the majority of the IAEA member states on finding a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear case is the sign of the failure of U.S. policies against Iran at the IAEA. The NAM statement rejects the hostile political stance adopted by the U.S. against Iran's nuclear case and refers to the UN Security Council interference in Iran's nuclear case as incorrect and unnecessary.
During the inaugural session of the seasonal meeting of IAEA Board of Governors in Vienna, Austria, ElBaradei once again announced the only solution to Iran's nuclear case is to hold negotiations. ElBaradei's comments, the NAM statement and the demand of a majority of the IAEA member states for a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear case reflect the demand of the international community. It shows that despite U.S. propaganda and disinformation campaign, the international community is not concerned over Iran's legal nuclear activities and in fact emphasizes securing Iran's rights in gaining access to peaceful nuclear technology.
ElBaradei's recent report confirms the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities and shows that no diversion toward military goals has been observed in Iran's nuclear activities. Hence, there is no reason for Iran's nuclear case to be studied at the UN Security Council. Therefore the U.S. efforts to neglect the IAEA and to instrumentally use the UN Security Council have led to wide-scale criticisms from other countries. The NAM statement in defense of Iran's nuclear rights shows the isolation of U.S. due to its adoption of unprincipled and expansionist policies against Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.
