West should recognize our nuclear rights: Khatami
Tehran, 2007/02/11, MNA
The West has no choice but to recognize Iran’s rights to nuclear energy, former president Mohammad Khatami said here on Sunday.
“Tehran is also prepared to cooperate in any way with the international bodies,” Khatami told reporters while attending the march celebrating the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Current pressures on Iran from the international bodies, especially the UN Security Council and the U.S. Congress, will not lead to the West’s desired outcome, the director of the International Institute for Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations said.
“Iran’s nuclear dossier should be resolved through negotiations,” he added.
The UN Security Council passed Resolution 1737 on December 23 imposing sanctions on Iran’s trade in nuclear material and technology as Iran refused to stop its uranium enrichment activities.
“Iranian people’s support for the government is a great opportunity” to accelerate the country’s development in different areas, Khatami noted.
