IRIB Vice President Mohammad Sarafraz
Vice President of IRIB has said the Press TV network broadcasts viewpoints different from the biased ones aired by Western channels.
"The TV, radio and online channels owned by the nine US and Western media companies try to influence public opinion in the World," stated Mohammad Sarafraz, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
"Under such circumstances, we have launched an international English news channel (Press TV) to provide viewers with different viewpoints and perspectives," he said at a news conference on the sideline of the Third Festival of the World Radio and TV Productions.
In the four months after the round-the-clock international news network has been launched, thousands of people mostly Americans, have visited Press TV's website every day, he added.
"The Press TV website currently has 2.5 million visitors per month and the number has increased from 80,000 to 90,000 viewers per day since last month," he continued.
"Press TV's website is the leading online news site at home and enjoys a high status among global news websites," he concluded.
The first Iran-based English-language news network, Press TV, was launched on July 2, 2007.
