Ahmadinejad: Policies of colonialist powers defeated
Tehran, 2007/01/22, IRNA
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Monday that policies of colonialist powers in the Middle East are "wrong and defeated."
President Ahmadinejad told Syrian Minister of Telecommunications and Technology Amr Salem that unity is the key to all problems as well as security, peace and stability worldwide.
He said troop build-up in Iraq and weakening of its popular government, establishment of the imposed Zionist regime, enmity with Iran and Syria and interference in Lebanese affairs are examples of wrong policies of the colonialist powers in the region.
He added that the colonialist powers do not attach the least value to regional nations and only follow their own interests, therefore regional states should be wise to check more problems.
The president said policies of the US government in Iraq are also failed.
The most ridiculous claim they raise is that Iran and Syria interfere in Iraq's affairs, while they themselves have come to the country from thousands of kilometers away and create more problems every day, he added.
Calling the Zionist regime of Israel as a constant threat for the region, Ahmadinejad said that as long as the false regime is in Palestine, there will be no calm in the region, so regional states should be more united and alert than before to thwart their dirty plots for discord.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ahmadinejad said progress and security in Syria is that of Iran. "The two nations of Iran and Syria hold an unbreakable bond due to sharing common stances, interests and enemies.
The Islamic Republic of Iran does not consider any restriction for its ties with Syria," he added.
Salem for his part said his country gives priority to expansion of relations with Iran.
He said that during his visit, he would sign a new cooperation agreement with Iran.
He called for stronger cooperation with Iran in the area of communications technology.
