
Democracy ought to be based on religious criteria: Khatami

Head of the Center for Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Muhammad Khatami said that democracy should be founded on religious criteria.
According to the Public Relations Department of Baran Foundation, Khatami made the remark in a meeting with secretary and members of the Islamic Association of Tehran University, adding, "If we want to have Islamic Republic, we should have good knowledge of the religion."
The former president of the Islamic Republic of Iran noted that Islamic associations ought to promote religious enlightenment.
He went on to say that the enlightening religion of Islam possesses inclusive commands on important issues such as relation between religion and thought, religion and live and religion and social obligations.
