Once US shows its good will, obstacles will be removed: EC chief
Tehran, 2007/02/14, IRNA
Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in a meeting with a number of students from Mashhad's Ferdowsi and medical sciences universities on Wednesday said that once the US somehow shows its good will to approach Iran, attempts will be made to remove the obstacles to talks.
In response to a question about Iran-US relations, he said that the hegemonic and colonial approach of US officials is the most important impediment to its relations with other countries.
Turning to Iran as an exemplary country in terms of political independence, he said that today no country can interfere in the country's major decision-making process and that the affairs are handled based on people's will.
Rafsanjani said that it is quite natural for Iran to be still in need of other countries in economic, technical and scientific fields, adding that all countries rely on one another in this regard and that this cannot be considered as a drawback.
He pointed to the decisive role of Islam in handling the current affairs in the Iranian community, he said that all efforts should be directed towards introduction and application of real Islam rather than letting the community suffer from a superficial approach to it.
