Tehran, 2007 Sep 2, IRIB
"I had been informed since 45 days before about the new decision and now I'm ready for the new heavy responsibility," Brigadier General Sayed Yahya Rahim Safavi, former Commander of Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Sunday.
"These kinds of transfers are natural," the senior aide to the Islamic Revolution Leader said, adding that "this is the first time that the Commander-in-Chief appoints a military commander as his senior military aide."
"With the new decree which the Islamic Revolution Leader issued for me, I feel that I am more closer to the IR Leader.
Rahim Safavi underlined that the new responsibility has a broader scope and concludes all of the country's armed forces.
"This is a chance for us to maintain our Jihad spirit and serve the religion and the Revolution," he added.
"During the last years, the ultra-regional forces occupied Afghanistan and Iraq, but with the prudence of the Islamic Revolution Leader and powerful presence of IRGC, IRI has changed into the first power of the region," Rahim Safavi said.
"I say confidently that the defensive power of IRGC, Army and the Defence Ministry has become tens times more in comparison to the era of Iraqi imposed war against IRI," he said.
Supreme Leader in a decree issued Saturday appointed Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Jafari as the new commander for the IRGC.
He was also promoted to Major General by the supreme leader. General Jafari was commander of IRGC's ground forces.
In a separate decree, Ayatollah Khamenei appointed Brigadier General Yahya Rahim Safavi as his senior advisor and assistant in military affairs.
