Tehran's interim Friday prayers leader Hojjat-al-Islam Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said the American officials and the West should not repeat their mistakes on Iran's peaceful nuclear issue.
Addressing the West, Hashemi Rafsanjani said,"If any way out is left, it is negotiation. Don't repeat mistakes. Islamic Iran is not seeking atomic weapons and will use the technology in the service of mankind."
Speaking to thousands of worshipers at Tehran University Campus, Rafsanjani said, "Iran's nuclear case has been unfairly taken to the UN Security Council and they are annoying the oppressed Iran."
He referred to IAEA's latest report on Iran's nuclear issue and said, "IAEA has recently shown its good will and we hope that they reach the ideal point in future."
Rafsanjani regretted that America and France have not accepted IAEA's report and insist that the case should be examined at the UN Security Council.
Elsewhere in his sermon, Rafsanjani raised the issue of September 11' and said, "After almost six years of the event, the real story is not yet known."
"American President Bush took advantage of the event and resorted to projection and followed his neocolonial objectives and made an 'insecure atmosphere' all over the world," Rafsanjani said.
"On the pretext of confronting terrorism, America ruling elite attacked two countries as the axis of evil," he added.
"They thought that they could surround Iran by invading Iraq and Afghanistan. They devised the 'Greater Middle East' plan to make the Zionist regime eternal and spent so much money that they cannot announce the figures to people," Rafsanjani added.
"They suffered heavy casualties and damage and now it is known that they are not even capable of keeping a country like Afghanistan, so they got help from NATO and they have disgraced it too," Rafsanjani said.
"30 countries have military forces in Iraq and the result is displacement of millions of Iraqis and almost one million Iraqis have been killed and Iraq's infrastructure has been totally destroyed,"he said.
"The American officials is expecting a very dim future and the Republicans, as the pioneers of this disaster, are worried about presidential election. Greater Middle East plan has failed, surrounding Islamic Iran has had reverse effects and America itself is now surrounded and they beg us to help them out," Ayatollah Rafsanjani said.
"This is a lesson better than the one the Americans got in Vietnam," he added.
