Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad leaves Tehran for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, this morning to perform the Hajj.
Saudi King Abdullah invited Ahmadinejad to attend the annual pilgrimage when the president participated in the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) summit in Doha on November 30.
It is the first time that an Iranian president is formally invited to attend the Hajj pilgrimage.
102,000 Iranians have been sent on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia this year to perform the Hajj along with millions of other Muslims who gather for the event in Makkah in the month of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.
