Azerbaijani Muslims concern about growing Wahabbi threat

Azerbaijani Muslims has expressed their concern about spreading of the activities of Wahabbists in their country.
According to IQNA's Baku branch, spreading of Wahabbi groups' activities in different parts of Azerbaijan has turned to a major threat and concern in this Caucasus republic.
“During the past few months there have been clashes between Wahabis groups and security forces and the concern among government and security authorities is growing,” Azeri Press Agency reported.
Upon escalating the subversive Wahabbi activities Azerbaijan's religious associations committee and ministry of Defense were assigned to investigate the Wahabbi issue.
Trend news agency quoted Aldar Saber Oglou, ministry of Defense spokesman, as saying, “they (Wahabbis) have infiltrated to the high levels of army and ministry of Defense and extensive investigations has been launched to tackle this security problem.”
Mr Mahdiov, a high-ranking official close to the president, revealed that Wahabbi groups have established strong links to foreign powers and security official are investigating the case.
Having witnessed the growing instability caused by Wahabbi groups many people in the country have called for government's swift action in curbing the issue. |
