Makarem-Shirazi: Participation in elections religious duty

Ayatollah Nasser Makarem-Shirazi, the Qom based religious authority, cast his vote for the 8th Majlis election and the by-election for the Leadership Assembly of Experts in the holy city on Friday.
Talking to reporters after he cast vote, he said participation in the election is a religious duty.
"Participation in the elections has a special importance in safeguarding Islam and the Islamic system," he added.
All Iranians are interested in development of the Islamic Republic, he said adding that an enthusiastic election would promote the country's independence and territorial integrity.
Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi urged the people to neutralize the enemies conspiracies with their active participation in the polls.
