
Significantly higher turnout compared to previous Legislative elections

Tehran, 2008 March 15, IRIB Iranians responded to the United Nations Security Council's anti-Iran Resolution 1803 by their massive turnout at the parliamentary election on March 14, Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi said on Saturday.
He said that the turnout in yesterday's Legislative Elections was significantly higher compared to 7th Parliamentary polls.
According to IRIB, addressing the reporters on Friday night, Hojjatoleslam Pour-Mohammadi emphasized with due regard to the rise of minimum age of voters by two years, compared to the previous round of elections, people's turnout in yesterday elections was glorious and magnificent.
The Interior Minister underlined the significant turnout in the polls and noted that anti-Iran resolutions have not managed to lower people's presence in the scene.
"Adoption of the third resolution against Iran doubled Iranians sense of responsibility and encouraged them to have active presence at the national political scene," said the minister.
Under vigorous pressure by Western states, the US in particular, the UNSC adopted its third anti-Iran resolution on March 3.
The council's two other resolutions against Iran was respectively adopted in December 2006 and March 2007.
He went on to say that western media, including US and a number of European states media as well as Zionists allies can not bear to see Iran's sustainable inspiring role in the world.
The Interior Minister underscored religious democracy in Iran is a highly valuable role model for countries, across the world.
The by-election for the Expert Assembly and the 8th election for the 290-seat parliament were held in over 45,000 polling stations in 207 constituencies throughout the country and lasted until 23 hours local time (1930 GMT), three hours more than its regular time.
Pour-Mohammadi added that the results of the election would be announced within the next 24 hours.
