US reaction to aerospace achievements of IRI inappropriate
Tehran, 2008 Feb 6, IRNA
The reaction of US government`s spokesperson to Iran`s achievements in the field of aerospace was inappropriate and immoral, Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said on Wednesday.
`Linking great scientific achievements of Iranians to the issue of weapons of mass destruction by the US government is misleading the public opinion resulted from Washington`s immoral and hegemonic policy,` Hosseini said.
He made the remarks commenting on latest reaction of the US government to launching of Explorer-1, Iran`s first research unit into orbit on February 4.
Launching of Explorer-1 triggered various reactions by different countries.
US tried to misportray it as a threat by linking the scientific breakthrough to the issue of weapons of mass destruction by Iran.
US officials should `respect rights and interest of all nations and avoid being narrow-minded and irrational approaches towards existing realities,` Hosseini suggested.
Iran launched space center on Monday February 4 in presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Mehdi Zahedi termed inauguration of the space center as a scientific breakthrough.
The space center has been designed to launch research satellites into the orbit.
