Tehran's interim Friday Prayers Leader, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, has emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a regional power which is backed by the international community.

Turning to the recent Caspian Sea summit in Tehran, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said the summit was a major foreign policy success for Iran, saying despite a US and Zionist media campaign against Iran, the Caspian Sea summit was a huge success and talks between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and senior Iranian officials were also a great success and agreements reached at the summit between the littoral states were very positive.
Turning to a US Senate plan to partition Iraq along ethnic and sectarian lines, into three different Shia, Sunni and Kurdish regions, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati stressed that the plan is not only a blatant and shameful interference in Iraq's internal affairs, but it is also forthrightly rejected by virtually all Iraqi groups, as well as the Iraqi government, and the wider Muslim world.
Commenting on the upcoming US-sponsored international peace conference in relation to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said the conference is clearly going to be a huge failure.
