OIC members have right to nuclear energy: Ihsanoglu
Tehran, 2007/04/11, MNA
Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu here on Wednesday said that Iran and all other members of OIC have right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Ihsanoglu told reporters that the main reason behind his visit to Tehran was to declare OIC’s support for Iran’s nuclear program.
The UN Security Council adopted a resolution against Iran on March 24, demanding a suspension of uranium enrichment activities by Tehran.
Asked about the introduction of new economic sanctions against Tehran for its nuclear activities, he said, “Sanctions will not solve anything, and it would only make the problems more complicated.”
However, as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran has right to uranium enrichment activities for civilian purposes.
