Khatami: Imam Hussein (a), pivot of unity
Tehran, 2009 Dec 25, IRIB
Tehran's Interim Friday Prayers Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, has congratulated the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ (Isa) (Peace be upon him), emphasizing that all divine religions accept Jesus Christ (Peace be upon him) as a prophet of God.
Speaking to a large crowd of Friday prayers worshippers and the faithful in Tehran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami reminded the audience of the teachings of Jesus Christ, particularly in relation to resisting and countering oppression and tyranny, calling upon all Christians to put Jesus Christ's teachings into practice.
Ayatollah Khatami spoke of Jesus as a manifestation of both holy kindness and holy wrath. He narrated a tradition that Jesus had said oppression should be severely dealt with on the spot before it spreads.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Tehran's interim Friday Prayers Leader referred to the month of Muharram and the mourning ceremonies marking the martyrdom anniversary of the Holy Prophet's grandson, Imam Hussein (Peace be upon him), saying the uprising of Imam Hussein (Peace be upon him) has been the "axis of unity" for Muslims. He urged Muslims to remain united and to avoid all rifts and divisions.
Turning to the deadly conflict in northern Yemen and the involvement of United States' military and Saudi military forces in bombing of defenseless Yemeni civilians in Saa'da province, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami said Iran condemns these crimes against the civilian population in the strongest possible terms.
He asserted that what is happening is because of the US and Saudi Arabia's greed.
"More than 2500 bombs and missiles were dropped in Yemen killing innocent people. It is happening in Muharram when war is forbidden," Khatami said.
Chiding international organizations for their muted response to widespread massacring of Yemeni civilians using unconventional weaponry, Tehran's interim Friday Prayers Leader said international organizations such as United Nations, the Security Council, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Conference must all take urgent steps to bring this conflict to an end, before the humanitarian disaster in Saa'da province in northern Yemen deteriorates further and gets out of hand.
Turning to a recent admission by Israeli regime officials that Israeli pathologists harvested organs of martyred Palestinians without the consent of their families, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami called upon the conscientious people of this world not to remain silent. He pointedly added: "The Israeli regime has the darkest human rights record in the world".
