Thanks to Spain for protecting ancient Islamic monuments
Madrid, April 7, IRNA Iranian Ambassador to Madrid Seyed Davoud Salehi on Saturday thanked the Spanish government for paying attention to protection and reconstruction of historical Islamic monuments in the country.
He made the remark at a ceremony marking the auspicious birth anniversary of the holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and Imam Jafar Sadeq (AS), which was attended by a number of Iranian expatriates residing in Spain.
"The special attention of Spain's government to safeguard the country's ancient Islamic centers and buildings shows that the initiative of dialogue among civilizations and respecting other culture has materialized.
"The head of Spanish government Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero is considered as one of the major supporters of the initiative of coalition of civilizations in the world," he added.
The Iranian diplomat criticized the British government's stance on Iran after the release of 15 arrested British marines and accused British Prime Minister Tony Blair of constant attempts to sow seed of discord among Muslims.
Salehi said, "The approach of Blair and his government towards Iran proves that even despite our good will the enemies are not willing to change their attitude towards Iran."
"Though the released Britons themselves appreciated the good approach of the Iranian people and government, the British government still intends to impose its colonial policies upon others." He called on all Muslims to be vigilant and severely stand up to the conspiracies of countries, such as Britain, which seek to sow discord among Shiites and Sunnis.
Meanwhile, at the ceremony which was held at the Iranian Embassy in Madrid, various entertaining programs were performed, which included pieces of traditional Iranian music, reciting poetry and reading Quran.
