Muslim world unity a vital goal
Tehran, 2007/01/14, IRNA
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called on all Muslim leaders and thinkers to strive for the unity of the Muslim world, which is a "vital" goal.
Addressing a group of Shiite and Sunni scholars, Ayatollah Khamenei urged noble religious figures in the Muslim world to be aware of enemy plots and close their ranks.
"Such a unity, if materialized, will be a good back-up for Muslim states. In that case, (Muslim) governments will no longer have to seek the UK and US help out of their fear and weakness," said the Supreme Leader.
Noting that discord among different schools of thought and ideologies is something natural, Ayatollah Khamenei said that in the contemporary era, the colonialist powers have been abusing the ignorance, prejudice and wrong attitudes of nations to sow discord among them. Such a practice was followed even more strongly after triumph of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, he added.
The Supreme Leader said the UK is well experienced in dividing Muslims due to its long-term presence in the region.
Ayatollah Khamenei praised prominent Muslim leaders such as the late Imam Khomeini, for their endeavors to foil enemies divisive plots.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei said those trying to divide Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Lebanon "are neither Shiite nor Sunni."
The Supreme Leader blamed the US and Israeli intelligence services for discord among Muslims and provocation of extremist groups in Iraq.
"The US and Israeli intelligence services by sowing discord and provoking extremist elements have been playing an essential role in insecurity in Iraq. The most insecure regions in Iraq are the places where the US forces are present," he added.
"After triumph of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the US hatched a new plot to show Iran's Islamic Revolution as a Shiite revolution while our revolution is `Islamic Revolution' and the `Revolution of Quran' hoisting the banner of Islamic virtues and monotheism and introducing divine rules and spiritual value of Islam, and it has been successful in that respect," the Supreme Leader said.
He said Iran's support for Islamic and divine virtues accounts for enemies' hostility to the Islamic Revolution.
"Had Iran's Islamic Revolution not supported and defended the world of Islam, Palestine, Afghanistan and Lebanon and any Muslim who moves in the path of Islam, the enemies would not have had anything to do with Iran," the Supreme Leader said.
Despite all the enmities, Iran's Islamic Revolution has revived the spirit of pride and dignity among Muslims and today Muslim nations' vigilance and enemies' defeat have become more evident for all, said the Supreme Leader.
