In the Islamic world there are many women scientists and scholars who are regarded as not only assets for Islam but assets for all humanity, President Mahmud Ahmadinejad said here on Tuesday.

In a meeting with Malaysian Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Ahmadinejad said that the true role of women in society should be recognized.

Muslim women should make efforts to introduce an Islamic model of women to the world and pursue their rights in international bodies by presenting proposals such as the establishment of a convention for Muslim women's rights, he stated.

Failing to recognize women's true character will destroy the foundation of the family and cause social imbalance, he said.

Abdul Jalil called for officials and international organizations to pay more attention to women's role in different arenas.
