Tehran, 2006/10/20, IRNA
Iran's Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said here Friday that the Palestinian nation should be considered as the hero in the world history as well as forerunner of Islamic and human movements in campaign against tyranny and world arrogance.
Rafsanjani made the remark while speaking to the Friday prayers worshipers on the last Friday of the fasting month of Ramadhan marking the International Qods Day.
The substitute Friday Prayers leader of Tehran pointed to the tyrannical approach of world big powers and Zionists towards Palestinians and said that they have been the world most oppressed nation over the past century.
Turning to the resolutions issued on Palestine by the United Nations Security Council as a disaster and scandal, he said, "They actually condemn the international bodies, officials in charge and Israel. Besides, they serve as important documents to prove the oppression of Palestinian people and Islam."
Elsewhere in his remarks, the EC chairman referred to Israel's aggression against Lebanon and said that Muslims should take pride in the resistance of Lebanese people and Hizbollah as well as its Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrollah, who turned out as a hero of the world of Islam.
He pointed to the defence of Lebanese people as a historical move which proved that Israel is about to fail.
Concerning the human rights dimension of the issue, the official said, "Some UN delegations visited Lebanon and Israel, made some surveys and declared the result.
"The great number of measures contradictory to human rights and Geneva's conventions have been included in the report, which can be used to open a file against Israel at the International War Crimes Tribunal to make Israel stand trial."
Concerning Iran's nuclear issue, he said that unfortunately, similar to Palestine, the country's nuclear issue has been subject to bullying over the recent years.
"The issue has been put on top of the world news and we have been constantly threatened with war and sanctions.
"Such a psychological war leaves its impact on people and many domestic plans. Such a threatening atmosphere is rooted in tyranny," he added.
Rafsanjani said that it was decided by some parties to take Iran's nuclear case to the UN Security Council, adding that this is against the interests of themselves, the region and Iran.
He recommended those behind the move to avoid such a risky measure detrimental both to the region and world.
"Under such conditions, Iran will do its best to solve the issue through negotiation. We should be prepared for any type of negotiations," he added.
Rafsanjani ensured the people that officials will not give up the inalienable right of the Iranian nation to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
