Indonesia's first discount airline, Lion Air, has agreed to buy as many as 60 Boeing Co. jets at a combined list price of $3.9 billion.
Lion said in Jakarta on Wednesday July 20 it has committed firmly to buying as many as 30 737-900er jets, with the first of the new aircraft set for delivery in early in 2007.
Lion also took an option on another 30 such jets. Powered by the CFM International CFM 56-7b turbofan engines, the jets have a range of 3,200 nautical miles and feature 9-percent lower operating costs per trip and 7-percent lower operating costs per seat than the Airbus a321, Boeing said.
"We are delighted to be the launch customer for the 737-900er," said Rusdi Kirana, president director, of Lion Air. "We are confident that the outstanding economics and reliability of the aircraft will contribute to the expansion and modernization of our fleet." |
