Crude oil rose past 92 US dollars per barrel in Asian trade on Friday to a new record. New York's main futures contract, light sweet crude for delivery in December, touched a new all-time intra-day high of 92.22 dollars per barrel.
By 3:00 pm local time it had fallen back slightly but had still soared 1.73 dollars to 92.19 dollars from its close at 90.46 dollars in late US trades.
Brent North Sea crude struck an intra-day high of 89.30 dollars, also breaking records set overnight. By 3:00 pm local time the contract for December was up 1.80 dollars on the day to 89.28 dollars.
