Iran's Deputy Secretary General for Anti-Drug Campaign Amir-Hossein Motahhar said here Wednesday that following the victory of the Islamic Revolution, mass cultivation of poppy or other related plants were completely abolished in the country.
According to the Public Relations Department of Anti-Drug Campaign Headquarters, he said this should be regarded as among the great achievements of the Islamic Revolution which prevented the cultivation of poppy nationwide.
On recent claims about mass cultivation of poppy in the country, he said the issue is totally fabricated although in very rare cases some individuals managed to clandestinely cultivate poppy in some very remote and difficult terrains in the country which could not be concealed from the security forces.
"Campaign against narcotics, its cultivation and drug trafficking are among our principles," he underlined.
