3 killed in Beirut blast hits US embassy car
By Hanan Awarekeh Beirut, 2008 Jan 15, Al-Manar At least three people were killed and 15 others were injured in an explosion in Beirut on Tuesday which wounded a passenger in a diplomatic car, security sources said, adding that a U.S. embassy car was hit.
Security sources said the explosion occurred in a Christian neighborhood of Beirut. Witnesses said ambulances rushed to the scene, as smoke rose into the sky. The blast was heard loudest in the Dora suburb in north Beirut, the sources and witnesses said. "There was a blast inside a car between the Dawra and Quarantina area and we have reports of injuries," an official said. In the latest attack on December 12, 2007, General Francois El Hajj, who was tipped to replace army Chief General Michel Sleiman if he was elected president, was killed in a car bomb blast along with three others.
