Olmert to be grilled for 6th time
Al-Qods, 2008 Aug 20, QodsTV/Alalam
Zionist regime Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is to be questioned this week over allegations of graft, for the sixth time since May, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said on Tuesday.
Friday`s questioning, to take place at Olmert`s official residence in the occupied al-Qods, should last two and a half hours, Rosenfeld said.
Anti-fraud officers will question Olmert over several of the cases, army radio said.
The multiple corruption cases facing Olmert have brought his political downfall, forcing him to announce he will step down after his Kadima Party selects a new leader next month.
Olmert`s departure announcement has touched off a leadership race in his party and could result in national elections.
New polls show that foreign minister Tzipi Livni has a clear edge in the Kadima Party race to replace Olmert, but officials questioned her ability to form a coalition and become prime minister.
The investigation has seriously hampered Olmert`s ability to conclude on-going talks with the Palestinians and Syria, although he has said he will persist in those efforts as long as he is premier.
Olmert, 62, is under investigation in six different cases of alleged wrongdoing in the years before he took office in 2006, when he was mayor of al-Quds and trade and industry minister.
