Al-Qods still main issue: Haniya
Gaza City, 2008 Aug 22, PressTV The Israeli siege on Gaza won't sideline the issue of al-Qods, and any accord concedes it and Palestine is void, Hamas leader says.
Ismail Haniya's remarks came in a speech delivered Thursday during a rally held on the 40th anniversary of a major arson strike at al-Aqsa Mosque and in support of the occupied city of al-Qods.
Israelis have besieged our bodies in the Gaza Strip, but they won't succeed in besieging our souls, Haniya said.
He criticized Israel's rejection to negotiate for al-Qods and the issue of the Palestinian refugees' return to their homeland, stressing that no Palestinian leader has the right to compromise on either of the issues.
"Any agreement that concedes al-Qods and Palestine is null and void," Haniya said.
He said that all the attempts to distort the Muslim and historical features of al-Quds city had failed and would never thrive, adding, "al-Qods could only be liberated by resistance, and not through negotiations and meeting and embracing the enemies."
For his part, acting speaker of the PA legislature MP Ahmad Bahar condemned the "horrible" Arab and Muslim silence vis-à-vis the Israeli crimes and aggressions against the al-Aqsa Mosque.
He also held Arab and Muslim leaders and peoples responsible for any harm that the Israeli occupation regime might inflict on the mosque as a result of the unjustifiable Arab and Muslim silence.
