
Iranian, Egyptian nations never severed ties: Haddad-Adel
Cairo, 2008 Feb 2, IRNA Iran's Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel said here on Saturday that the Iranian and Egyptian nations never severed ties when there was strain in diplomatic relations.
He made the remarks in a meeting with members of Iran-Egypt Friendship Group as well as members of the Egyptian Foreign Relations Council.
Despite diplomatic relations between the two countries were cut over the past 30 years, the two nations have preserved their ancient links which date back to thousand years ago, he said.
He added that Iran and Egypt have always served Islam with all their assets.
The Iranian speaker and his entourage arrived in Cairo Tuesday to attend a biennial interparliamentary meeting of the Islamic countries.
The speaker's visit to Egypt is taking place at the official invitation of his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Fathi Sorour.
Haddad-Adel's visit to Egypt is part of his two-nation tour which will also take him to Sudan later on Saturday.
