Iran appealed to the inter-parliamentary meeting of the Islamic states in Egypt to help defenseless people of Gaza, a top member of Iranian parliament (Majlis) said on Sunday evening.
Head of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that shortly prior to the meeting, a special envoy from Iran's Foreign Ministry has conveyed Tehran's appeal to Foreign Minister of Egypt Ahmed Aboul Gheit to help the defenseless people living in Gaza Strip.
The Gazans are under immense pressures after the Zionist regime's savage attacks on the region since mid January.
The defenseless people of Gaza crossed Gaza-Egypt border in Rafah town to provide foodstuffs, medicines and fuel after Tel Aviv regime imposed blockade on Gaza Strip.
Boroujerdi made the remarks in an interview with IRNA in the Syrian capital where he had a day-long stay on his way back home from Cairo.
"Iran's proposal for reopening of the Rafah border point to Palestinians and facilitating transfer of food and other humanitarian aid to Gazans was welcomed by Cairo officials," Boroujerdi said.
Iran has called for immediate lifting of current siege of Gaza Strip.
