Israel's Strategic Affairs Minister says Saudi Arabia and Egypt's plans to launch nuclear programs present an 'apocalyptic scenario' for Israel.
"If Egypt and Saudi Arabia begin nuclear programs, this can bring an apocalyptic scenario upon us," Avigdor Lieberman told the Jerusalem Post.
He also said that "their intentions should be taken seriously and the declarations being made now are to prepare the world for when they decide to actually do it."
Earlier Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, announced a decision to restart his country's nuclear program. Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states had previously expressed their willingness to launch nuclear activities in the region.
Lieberman also said Pakistan was a major threat to Israel due to the fact that the country had missiles and nuclear weapons.
Liberman also blasted International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohamed ElBaradei as a major obstacle to the West's efforts to impose sanctions on Iran. He further added that Israel needed to ignore ElBaradei and to work on its own to impose sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
