Arab League protests tourist project near Al-Aqsa Mosque
Cairo, 2007 Nov 11, IQNA
The Arab League has strongly condemned an Israeli association’s plan to set up a tourist project by digging a tunnel under old Arab town houses in the Islamic neighbourhood of Al-Qods, close to Al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem.
The Arab League, in a statement, called on the United Nations and UNESCO and the Arab Quartet nations to immediately intervene and take the necessary steps to prevent the project from going ahead.
The Israeli project was in contravention of the provisions of fourth Geneva Convention and the Hague Convention on the protection of cultural properties, especially as UNESCO has already recognised old Jerusalem as a global heritage site that must be preserved, the statement noted.

Masjid Al-Aqsa was burnt by Zionists on 1969 Aug 21.
