Mottaki and al-Moualem: Foreign forces must leave Iraq
Tehran, 2008 Apr 24, IRIB Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Wednesday that time is ripe for presenting a timetable for withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq.
"Continuation of foreign forces presence in Iraq is a main obstacle in the way of establishing stability and security in that country," Mottaki said in a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Moualem.
He added that Iran and Syria share identical stand on supporting the legal Iraqi government and on restoration of peace and stability to that country.
"We regard stability and security of Iraq as stability of the entire region," he added.
Mottaki said both sides were of the view that no certain state should interfere in the Lebanese domestic affairs, adding, "Different Lebanese groups and parties should reach a comprehensive consensus to resolve the existing problems."
"We believe that a formula will work in Lebanon that is agreed by all Lebanese sides. Foreign interference has been among main obstacles in the way of settlement of the ongoing crisis in Lebanon," the Foreign Minister reiterated.
