Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on Sunday met Secretary General of the French Presidency Claude Gueant and French President's diplomatic advisor Jean-David Levitte, two envoys of French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
 
Talks during the meeting dealt with bilateral relations between Syria and France and means of developing them.
 
The two sides discussed the situation in Lebanon, referring to the necessity of urging the Lebanese to reach a unanimous candidate to be elected in line with the constitutional rules.
 
Viewpoints were concordant on the necessity of the Lebanese to be capable of electing the next President freely, without foreign interference.
 
Talks also dealt with efforts exerted to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moallem attended the meeting.
