Despite the passage of one year from the brutal 33-day Israeli war against Lebanon the world is still witnessing the death of a large number of Lebanese people as a result of Israeli measures during the war. It is worth noting that the Zionist regime during the 33-day war on Lebanon used different types of unconventional and prohibited weapons including cluster bombs and phosphorous bombs.
Cluster bombs are among the prohibited bombs the identification and neutralization of which is very difficult. Cluster bombs are exploded into small pieces, leaving high number of casualties.
As a result of the explosion of cluster bombs used by the Zionist regime in the Lebanon war hundreds of Lebanese civilians have yet been killed and wounded, triggering grave concerns among Lebanese officials and people. In this field, Lebanon’s Parliament speaker Nabi Berri stressed that Israel during its brutal aggression on Lebanon in 1978 as well as its last summer war has widely used cluster bombs. Nabi Berri called on world countries to help neutralize over one million cluster bombs and other unexploded bombs left from the last summer war. Nabi Berri stressed that Lebanon is still suffering from this inhuman Israeli measure due to the Zionist regime’s refusal to hand over the map of mine-planted lands.
According to news sources the Zionist regime has planted 450 mines in south Lebanon. The statistics show that the Zionist regime does not spare any crime against the Lebanese people.
The Zionist regime despite receiving huge bulk of weapons and bombs from the West, it suffered a humiliating defeat from the Lebanese nation. The Zionist regime in 2000 after being defeated by Lebanon’s resistance fled part of South Lebanon. In this midst western governments, which claim to be defenders of human rights, with their all-out support for the Zionist regime only further embolden that illegal entity to violate international laws. |
