2nd round of Iraq talks tied to US actions
Tehran, 2007/05/30, IRIB
An Iranian official has said continuation of talks with Americans over US-occupied Iraq depends on the US actions and the actual results of last Monday's meeting in Baghdad.
Abdor-Reza Rahmani-Fazli, the Deputy Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said last night in Tehran that "Iran will decide on the second round of talks after close consideration of US actions and the meeting's results."
According to the official, the Iraqi government's proposal on trilateral cooperation amongst Tehran, Washington and Baghdad to restore security in American-occupied Iraq was one of the issues brought up at the Monday May 28 meeting.
Describing Monday's meeting as "acceptable", he said, "The continuation of talks with the US, which was demanded by the Iraqi side, was also discussed."
Elaborating on Iran's stance on the said issues, he said, the Iranian delegation emphasized the need for ending the occupation of Iraq, and handing over the control of the country to the Iraqi government and people.
