Ahmadinejad urges planning for a future without bullying powers

Kuala Lumpur, 2008 July 8, IRNA

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on the Eight Islamic Developing Countries (D-8) on Tuesday to plan for a future without bullying powers.

He made the remarks in his address to the opening session of the group's sixth Summit.

The D-8 -- comprising Iran, Indonesia, Egypt, Malaysia, Turkey, Pakistan, Nigeria and Bangladesh -- represent about one billion people, or 14 percent of the world's population.

The theme of the sixth Summit is 'Meeting Challenges Through Innovative Cooperation'.

"With comprehensive cooperation and consultation, the D-8 can formulate a road map to overcome crises it is facing," said the Iranian president.

He urged the member states to take great steps towards justice and brotherhood based on their common principles.

President Ahmadinejad also urged the D-8 to play a more constructive and effective role in settlement of regional and international problems.

He added that close and comprehensive cooperation of the D-8 states, particularly in the area of economy, would play a key role in stabilizing economies of the Islamic developing countries and in reducing unexpected shocks resulted from international economic and monetary crises.
