Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Al-Ja'afari clinched landmark oil and power agreements during his visit to Tehran, a senior Iraqi official told Reuters.
The set up of a 40-km oil pipeline which connects a main refinery center in the southern city of Basra to the Iranian refinery hub of Abadan and letting Iraq to use Iranian ports along the Caspian Sea to import oil derivatives from the Central Asian countries were discussed.
Tehran and Baghdad also discussed inter-connection of their power lines.
The two sides have signed packages of trade and political MoUs, trying to put an end into the bitter memories left after the eight-year old Iran-Iraq war, started by former dictator Saddam Hussein.
Iraqi premier, Ibrahim Al-Ja'afari left Tehran for Baghdad Tuesday July 19 evening after he was officially seen off by Iran's First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Aref at Sa'dabad cultural complex.
Al-Ja'afari arrived in Tehran on Saturday July 16 at the head of a high-ranking delegation which included several ministers.
Iraqi premier has met with top Iranian officials including the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei and President Mohammad Khatami.
