Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas announced in a speech on Saturday August 20 that legislative elections would take place on January 25 of next year.
Elections for members of legislative council in Al-Qods and all other occupied areas will take place on Wednesday, January 25," Abbas said, reading from the presidential decree.
