President Mohammad Khatami said that all have the duty to help the government that has come to power on the public votes because its success means success of the whole nation.
In a press conference on the sidelines of a development project in Qom Saturday July 2, Khatami said he would transfer all his experiences to the incoming government.
Khatami defended the successful performance of his eight-year government and said despite shortcomings, his government had done well and was subject on injustice in the course of the political skirmishes and psychological war.
He said he would transit power to the president-elect at a condition when the country is in a good economic, scientific, industrial and diplomatic position.
He hoped future generations will benefit from the condition and make up shortcomings so that the nation will proceed in the path of development.
Khatami referred to attraction of foreign investment, higher confidence in the country, and its strong influence in the mind of the public opinion in the post-Islamic revolution era as some of the achievements of his government.
The president pointed to some controversies alleging his government having poor performance and advised the critics to have a realistic attitude towards issues.
He warned that to lay heavy emphasis on shortcomings and to underestimate the works done are feared to sow pessimism among the nation.
He predicted that the Iranian society will take a moderate course and relations between government and the nation will get consolidated.
Khatami said he would after expiry of his presidential tenure strive for elevation of Iran and its reputation worldwide and for defending the nation's prestige and dignity.
He said he would after his presidency work on the idea of dialogue among civilizations and contribute to the development of the new sciences.
